Illini Cycling Club’s Mission is to promote cycling accessibility for everyone, from complete beginners to top-tier athletes. Join us on group rides, skill clinics, club meetings, and social events! We’d love to share our extensive knowledge that is not limited to but includes: bike maintenance, riding safely on campus, planning a longer bike route, bike-packing, and more! We look forward to seeing new faces and our regular members!
Assume that every ride is subject to change with short notice, such as in cases of inclement weather, schedule conflicts, etc. We recommend checking the Facebook messenger group chat before going. We also post the routes before every ride via the group chat. If you would like to be added to any of our group chats, send us an email at illinicyclingclub@gmail.com or ask at any of the IC group rides.
We also have a route repository where most of the routes we use for group rides are posted. — Drop ride means if you can't keep up and fall off the back, the group will not slow down and you should know how to get home by yourself. There will be attacks and sprints. — Soft-drop means there generally won't be any attacks and the group aims to remain as one unit for the entire ride, but if you're really struggling, you're on your own. The group will maintain the nominal pace. — Non-drop means if you're struggling to keep up, the group or a subset of riders will slow down for you so you don't get left behind.
On Thursday, the second group will serve as a "sweeper group". If you get dropped from the fast group, the second group will be following behind along the same route to pick you up.
